While sailing on the Chao Phraya River on board Royal Princess Cruise, you will enjoy watching Bangkok’s historical landmarks at nighttime along both sides of the Chao Phraya River such as The Royal Grand Palace, The Temple of Dawn, and The Rama VIII Bridge. Nice trip, good views
We had an evening on the mid trip at the end of our holiday. It was pleasant enough with the views from the river if the skyline nice. nThe food was ok, there was certainly plenty of it. As you would expect with such a large buffet meal, there were time where certain foods ran out but the staff worked to replenish it quickly and guests could go up as many times as they liked. The buffet was busy and felt at times like a bit of a scrum. The tour itself was pleasant and delivered what it said it would, my personal choice of doing this in the future would be to look out for a smaller boat that may have felt less busy / chaotic at times.nGet to the pier well in advance, we got off the sky train 50 minutes before expecting the shuttle boat to only take 10 minutes but a 30 minute wait made us very late which led to a frantic arrival (not the companies fault). The pier prior to boarding is VERY busy.
Nice cruise experience in Thailand
Enjoyable activity for the evening. The area where you leave from and arrive is also full of nice bars to have a pre-dinner or post-dinner drink. The cruise itself is worthwhile showing the most important sights illuminated. The cruise includes an international buffet as well as Thai dishes. Especially liked the Thai specialities. The cruise also includes a show and a singer. To make it even better when we were about to dock there was a fireworks show over the Bangkok skyline.
Great for families and groups
Lots of families and groups were celebrating, enjoying the dinner and singer. Noisy inside where super long buffet had excellent beef and seafood. Good drink service. Not a lot of directions on how to get to the embarkation site. A balloon artist was entertaining children waiting for the cruise ship.
Don't book if on the bottom level
I am not sure if you need to book in advance to have a table on the top deck as no option was given when booking, as if it was available I would of paid extra, if you are on the Level 1, don't bother booking... no views through the dirty windows, ordered a bottle of wine that didn't ever arrive, can guarantee it's a different experience at the bottom
Must do activity
Fantastic is an understatement. One should definitely book this dinner cruise. Try to book online to get a better deal. Reach the boarding point (Asiatique Riverfront) early and request for an upper deck. The cruising time is 2hrs (7:30pm to 9:30pm). Buffet is awesome and each dish is lipsmacking. Totally international cuisine. One would definitely end up over eating. The live show (song and traditional Thai mask dance) is fantastic. View along the river is stunning. Wish it was more than 2hrs!
Bad experience!
I took this dinner cruise twice in a weeks time and alt bought the first trip wasnu2019t the best, tried again as I knew how to get there and thought it would be better. It wasnu2019t. The food was still cold. Though there was shrimp, there wasnu2019t anything to dip it in, so tasteless. We ended up on the bottom floor again, and there wasnu2019t an option for a different floor. Not one person came to offer us the chance to buy a drink. And I got wet! The air con began dripping from the ceiling, and created a dangerous and slippery puddle which caused my feet to be continuously wet. The waitstaff moved two groups but left us where we were. It was probably more entertaining watching them try to fix the problem than the show was. I finally had to talk to the manager and tell them the situation was unacceptable, but nothing was done. Just an apology. nIu2019ve learned my lesson and next time will just eat on land.
Choose another cruise
Trying to find where to join the group was extremely difficult. Attempts to call to locate where to pick up tickets led to 3 phonecalls and finally got through. Told to go to pier. Directions and information provided were poor. When boarding felt like being in a cattle run. No information provided on where to sit and what level. Food was less than ordinary - bland and overcooked. Only saving grace were bar staff and reasonably priced drinks
Try another ship or eat before you board.
Boarding was a nightmare. 3 boats leaving from same pier within 30 minutes. No instructions or announcements . Everyone tries to board at same time. The food was terrible, the worst food we have had in Thailand. Entertainment was sub par at best. The views were great and worth the price we paid through Klook.

Buffet great if you like spaghetti, French fries, rice, and highly spiced thai food and soups. There was virtually no dessert in u0022the Bakeryu0022 section. No live music, just a lady singing to recorded songs on 2 levels with videos of distant galaxies in the background. No one on the boat speaks any language other than Thai. So, ordering club soda with a glass of ice was absolutely impossible. I tried 4 times. Rest rooms were dirty and not maintained. Do not confuse this cruise with Princess Cruises in North America. It's not even remotely similar. Ship is older and needs refurbishment but looks good from a distance with its exterior disco lighting. A / C only fair, although I was on the open upper deck.All the river ships travel the same basic path. There are no handrails for going onto or off the ship to the dock despite very steep steps. I'd give it a C - - at bestn
Don't bother, food is horrible and they do not let you choose which level you sit
We booked through klook and we were not allowed to choose at which level we sit. Obviously everyone will want to sit at the roof deck, but it seems to be booked by other travel agency. It is not fair as the view is different and the entertainment as well!nnPlease try to book directly via them to see if you can sit on the void deck.nOther than that the food is pretty awful: Cold fries, sashimi that looks like you will get food poisoning.nnKeep your money, eat at the quay, then go on a boat tour to see the city sights. DO NOT EAT there.
Chaotic at first and confusing
To start of, don't book your tickets in here. Once you're in bangkok and have a wifi, download klook app, create an account. I paid $100 for 4 people for this cruise using the klook. This way cheaper than the prices I see here.nnIt's true from other reviewers that there are no clear instructions. Our reservation was 6pm-8pm. We got to the Warehouse 7 at 6 pm (traffic was so bad) to check in, was instructed boat time is at 7:30. We were told to just wait and go to the pier. nnWhile waiting, we just went by ear and sight (you know watch other people and follow them). Finally the time came, lady with a sign Royal Princess yelling for us to follow her of fall in line I think (speaking in Thai). The people were cramming at each other, it was crowded waiting to board. nAdvise, chill out and wait, you have designated seats anyway. I don't know that you can request seats when you get an armband, just saw on one reviewer that you can. We were seated on the 2nd deck by the window with air-conditioning, not too bad. Access to the view right at the wind was great. would have love an upper deck though. I realized this was great seat for us because it was too humid on the top deck, and my mom got dizzy when went upstairs to take pictures. nnEach deck have individual performer and buffet. Food is the same on each deck. Again, as other reviewers said, wait at least 30 minute before go to the buffet. The line is packed and crazy. While people were lining up, hubby and I went to the end of the table to grab seafood and roast beef being served by staff. There was no line, I took 4 plates! Food was good. nnLive Entertainment was good, variety of songs. nnView of the city is nice. I recommend it.
Total turn off!!
We booked the cruise through the trip advisor and after going through the reviews. Booked it for a couple and a kid of 10 years. Everything seems fine till we came up for the reporting at the asiatique. On reporting, it didnu2019t feel like we were their customers. The staff was approached for the tickets, and very coldly they gave our arm bands. No explanation of where the seats were, we asked from them, they said itu2019s written on the tickets. We went to the pier from where we were to board the cruise. To our horror, we were given the lowest most deck, and a seat near the toilets. There was no logic in allotting those seats to us as when we went on the other two higher decks, there were families with little kids and even at the price. Food was pathetic, service was even worse. The entire cruise was a turn off. We somehow completed it. It was a complete cheat as there was no intimation of this sort anywhere even till we boarded the cruise. Not recommended
Hit or miss depends on how you see it
So we expected more but we wonu2019t be so harsh.nnThis is a beautiful cruise down the river.nnBe patient you donu2019t need to wait in line to get on the cruise you have set tables and chairs so no need to rush.nnWhen you get on and ship moves of dock they open buffet you can run with everyone or just wait. The food wonu2019t run out they keep putting more and more and more out. Enjoy the view as it sails and then get food once everyone cramped like crazy people.nnI must say service was very good being such a busy amount of people.nnThe food quality my husband and I werenu2019t a fan. So we were ok with the wine. nnThe view is beautiful the music of choices they sans not my favorite to slow and romantic was putting us sleepy and the show is a topical Thai show if you get to see it. nnItu2019s a hit or miss or how we took it more for the view at night nnI would rate it more but overall thatu2019s what we think was the best rate. nnWhen booking itu2019s easier in person at the asiantique weu2019re you can request to be sat on the 3 floor roof top
Wait half an hour before you attempt to fight for the buffet.
Excellent if you are on the top deck, as we were. Cold glass of water on table on arrival. Bit of a crush waiting for boat to arrive as they all go from same places at fifteen minutes intervals. Table pre-booked so no rush. Extensive quality buffet all ready on arrival on board. However, when the announcer said 'The buffet is served please help yourself', it is one mass of people pushing and shoving. If you wait in line others push in front of you. Also, no information given that there is a soup, a starter, different mains and puddings. Also a chef at one place slicing beef or salmon for guests. Nobody told you this and you would not know, even if you could get to the food for the people. Best advice is to wait half an hour then go to the buffet. Plenty of food, so won't run out. Apart from the chaotic food situation on a dinner cruise, the sailing up the river was good with great views of temples etc and great entertainment from the singer announcer. Oh, if a waiter says go downstairs for food to avoid the queue, yes the food is the same, but so is the queue, it just relieves space on the top deck, it does not help you. The biggest example of a bun fight I've seen. I don't think there is time for selected tables at a time but more info would be good before the battle. However, once you get some, the food is good.
Disappointed
Pandemonium getting on board. nIt was insisted we got to the Pier to board at 7.15pm for a 7.30pm departure. At 7.48pm we were let on board with a thousand other people pushing and jostling to get on their and other departing boats. nnThere are three levels. Only the top one has nice views and good service. We were on the bottom level, maybe because we booked only 2 days beforehand. There were no options to pay more for a higher level, which we would have done..so perhaps they had some out. nnA nice glass of cold water was on out allocated table. At no other time weu2019re other drinks available. Apparently you can go up a level and pay for beer or wine. We uncovered this near the end, although no water was available. nnThe lights were bright inside so we couldnu2019t really see any of the views we wanted. nnThe buffet was good and plentiful. nnWe arrived back on time, but with a 15+ minute late departure, you obviously donu2019t get the two hours promised. nnBottom line: if you can purchase somehow a top deck position, it will be magical. Otherwise itu2019s eurgh. Tables are pre-allocated on your ticket that you collect at Warehouse 7 before boarding. So no need to panic or rush to get on. Let the kids snicked crowds surge and then amble on behind, much more relaxed.
