Krabi’s appeal is the landscape and the pace. Ao Nang is a compact beach town you can walk end to end, Railay is a cliff-backed peninsula reachable only by boat, and the rest of the province is rice fields, hot springs and karst mountains. Evenings are earlier and simpler: a walking street, seafood by the water, a night market in Krabi Town. It suits couples, families and anyone whose ideal day ends with a sunset rather than starts with one.

Once you are there, distances are small: Ao Nang is walkable, shared songthaew trucks run to Krabi Town for around 60 THB, and longtails leave from the beach itself. Getting between the two provinces is straightforward as well: ferries and minivans connect Phuket and Krabi in roughly two to three hours.

Can You Do Both?
Yes, and plenty of people do. The two are close enough that combining them is easy rather than ambitious. Ferries run between Phuket and Krabi in around two hours in high season, and minivans take a similar time year-round, so a ten-day trip splits comfortably: four or five nights in each, with Phi Phi sitting neatly in the middle as either a day trip or an overnight stop.
Note: Taking a ferry from Phuket to Krabi is possible, but be aware that it does not arrive directly in Krabi town. Expect to take a taxi or shuttle from the pier to your final destination. If you only have a week, pick one as your base and take a day trip rather than moving hotels. You will see more of the sea and less of the road.

November to April is the high season for both, with the calmest seas and the most reliable boat schedules. The green months in between are quieter and cheaper, with sailings weather-dependent.
