What To Expect

Koh Madsum has recently become famous for its Island pig family, no longer is it named Koh Madsum but Pig island. A fantastic trip for families with children and travel onboard a traditional Thai longtail boat. But what makes Pig Island truly unique – are its friendly residents – wild boars! Soak up in the sun and admire the breathtaking scenery of Koh Samui on the horizon, while the boars are roaming around freely. The water is clear and calm, while the surrounding coral reef is vibrant.

Pig Island is an incredible day trip. With a white sandy beach and some lush interior, including mangrove forests, there are few eco-adventures to undertake in Pig Island as well. Kayaking along the shore, you may come across some rare birds and elusive monitor lizards. You can even reach Koh Tan, the second secluded island in the vicinity, offering even more remarkable snorkeling, trekking, and wildlife exploration. Welcome to the Thai version of the Bahamas!

Cute Pigs not worth the effort.

We gave this trip such a low score as kayaking was mentioned in title of trip but there was no kayaking. There is very little to do on Pig Island other than watch the cute pigs. The crew took our shoes before we left the harbour which was an issue on Pig Island as sand is full of shells and felt like walking on gravel so not pleasant to wander around. The positives were the lunch was nice, the pigs were cute, the bus transfer and boat were very clean and on time.

Petting zoo of pigs and piglets

Fun outing. Basic snorkeling and then a few relaxing hours on Pig Island, with a good lunch included. Despite what I’ve seen posted online, these pigs are not starving or mistreated. This is essentially a petting zoo with pigs and many cute little piglets. Everyone was well behaved, pigs, piglets, dogs, and people alike. And the vast white beaches were quite clean. I enjoyed this. Slightly chaotic in the morning as the different shuttles collected all the tourists, but the rides home were very well organized.

Misleading advertisement/marketing regarding friendly pigs

We had a funfull morning with the pigs feeding them pellets bought on the island. All the tourists were feeding the pigs as they were advertised as friendly pigs. Not turning out as a good experience. A pig attacked/bited us. The Hospital of Bangkok advised us that they see people on a daily basis . 14 800 baht later, per person, multiple injections for (tetnis and rabies )

Overcomplicated start, but great trip

We got picked up at our hotel at 7:30 in the morning and drove for half an hour to the north east of Koh Samui. There, at the harbour we had to wait for 45 minutes and then proceeded to drive all the way back to our hotel (which we passed at around 9:20) and then a little further to the southern harbour, where we then again had to wait a few minutes. For us this was rather unnecessary stress and a time waste. As we had to get up much earlier than needed and also missed breakfast. We took off around 10:00 at the southern harbour and arrived after 15 minutes at the first destination where we could snorkel and see a lot of fish and corals. We stayed there until 11:00 and proceeded onto Pig Island. There we had time until 14:00 to eat (a rather tasty) lunch, go kayaking, and of course feed the pigs. Overall, the trip and the people were really nice but the start was just badly organised.

Not the best experience

Staying on pig island for two hours is too much to watch a bunch of pigs and stray dogs. People were chasing baby pigs to pick them up or pet them and poor dogs are so hungry, they have to eat pig food. It is so sad .

Don’t bother!

This tour starts off at some rundown port where you wait around to get on the boat which is over crowded. A short stop to go snorkeling with lots of other boats then onto pig island where you sit and look at pigs for the next 4 hrs! Nice beach to have a swim. Lunch is provided if you could call it food! Dried chicken wings ( one only no extra allowed) and some pork mince. I know you don’t go on these tours for the culinary delights but this was hardly edible! Pigs were kind of cute but beware they do bite when being fed which is understandable. You do get warned about this but of course some people never listen. Would not recommend.

A great day out!

A fantastic day out! I would highly recommend that you book this trip. Very professional team - a great experience. The lunch was also very delicious and as a vegetarian I was very well catered for. The pigs are very cute and feeding them was fun! The scenery and setting is stunning.

Needs improvement

We booked the tour with not much notice, the included transfer was seem-less and was appreciated after a day in the sun. Our tour guide was lovely and the crew were super helpful. The tour itself wasn’t what we expected. Pig island was filled with around 30 other tourist boats which made swimming in the ocean to cool off difficult. Kayaking we were only allowed to go in a small section and do one lap as they didn’t have enough for everyone. It was only in the ocean, this was a disappointment. The included lunch was delicious, however make sure you get a table and chairs early as there isn’t many to sit at. The snorkelling over the coal was great however recommended bringing your own gear as theirs is old and life jackets are too big to wear.
